Mega Millions has gone 132 days without a jackpot winner, pushing the estimated top prize to $800 million ahead of Tuesday’s, July 28, drawing.

The growing jackpot has entered the top 10 largest prizes in Mega Millions history. After 37 consecutive drawings without a ticket matching all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball, the prize has risen to the 10th-largest jackpot in the game’s history and the 18th-largest lottery prize ever offered in the United States.

The estimated cash payout for the July 28 drawing stands at $344.2 million before applicable taxes. Winners who choose the advertised $800 million annuity option would receive payments over 29 years.

Mega Millions’ Biggest Jackpots

Across the 37 drawings leading up to the current $800 million jackpot, Mega Millions reports that players have won nearly $252.4 million in total prizes. More than 10.2 million tickets have claimed winnings, including 16 second-tier prizes worth at least $1 million each.

Major Mega Millions jackpot wins have been relatively uncommon in 2026, with only two top prizes awarded so far.

On March 10, a ticket holder in Illinois won $533 million. The winner chose to remain anonymous and claimed the prize under the name “Lucky Lady.” One week later, the “Happy Trails Trust” secured a $60 million jackpot in Ohio.

According to Mega Millions officials, this is only the second time since the game launched in 2002 that just two jackpots had been awarded by July 24. The previous occurrence was in 2024, when the game recorded only four jackpot wins for the entire year—the lowest annual total in its history.

Powerball Jackpot Also Continues to Grow

Powerball is experiencing a similar jackpot drought, having gone 36 consecutive drawings without a top-prize winner. The jackpot for Monday’s, July 27, drawing is estimated at $633 million, with a cash option of $277.3 million.

Saturday night’s drawing produced six tickets that came close to winning the jackpot. Each matched all five white balls but failed to match the red Powerball, earning a $1 million prize instead.

Powerball has awarded five jackpots in 2026, with the most recent occurring in May, when tickets sold in Florida and Texas shared a $20 million prize.

The largest Powerball jackpot won so far this year was worth $250.8 million. An Arkansas player claimed the prize in the March 2 drawing.
