Vegas Strip Net Income Collapses 81% in FY 2025 Despite Record Gaming Wins
The Las Vegas Strip experienced one of its most significant declines in profitability in recent history, according to the 2025 Nevada Gaming Abstract. Published on Wednesday, June 10, the report presents a stark contrast to the optimistic “Vegas is booming!” narrative often fueled by monthly casino gaming revenue announcements.
During fiscal year 2025, which ended on June 30, 2025, the 51 major Strip casinos generating at least $1 million in gaming revenue collectively earned just $154.2 million in net income. This marked an 81.2% decrease compared with the previous fiscal year.
The decline amounted to approximately $666 million in lost net profit after accounting for employee wages, supplier payments, utilities, interest, advertising, entertainment, and the numerous other expenses involved in operating large-scale resorts.
The sharp drop in earnings occurred despite total revenue remaining close to historic highs. The Strip generated $21.08 billion, its second-highest total on record, although this was 3.7%—or $807 million—below the record set in 2024.
What Led to the Decline?
The widening gap between strong revenue figures and falling profits resulted from high operating expenses combined with weakening consumer demand. General and administrative costs increased by 0.4%, adding another $46.4 million to expenses.
Greater pressure came from rising labor expenses, more expensive entertainment agreements, and increased maintenance costs associated with aging resort infrastructure. These challenges emerged as visitors began cutting back on their spending.
When revenue falls even modestly while expenses continue increasing or remain largely unchanged, profit margins can deteriorate rapidly.

Gaming win—the money casinos retain from wagers after paying out winnings—is the statistic Nevada regulators publish each month, often generating prominent headlines. However, gaming win should not be confused with overall revenue or net profit. It represents the amount retained from gambling before operating expenses are deducted.
Furthermore, gambling accounts for only a portion of the Strip’s overall business. In 2025, gaming win represented just 26.1% of total Strip revenue, almost identical to its share in 2024. The other 73.9% came from hotel rooms, dining, beverages, entertainment, retail, nightlife, and other non-gaming activities.
Several of these revenue categories recorded declines:
-
Hotel rooms: Revenue fell 5.1%, while the average daily room rate decreased by 2% to $250.72.
-
Food: Revenue declined by 1.4%.
-
Beverages: Revenue dropped 3.2%.
Downtown Las Vegas Shows Greater Resilience
Downtown Las Vegas experienced a considerably smaller decline, with net income falling 20.2%, according to the same report. Casinos in Clark County that primarily serve local residents demonstrated even greater stability, recording only a 1.6% decrease in net income.
The Bottom Line
The Strip’s large-scale resorts face substantial operating expenses, particularly because many now lease the land and buildings on which they operate rather than owning those properties outright.
This cost structure leaves them vulnerable when revenue weakens. Even a relatively small decline in sales, combined with rising expenses, can produce a disproportionate reduction in profitability. The 2025 figures illustrate how near-record revenue does not necessarily translate into strong financial performance.
